Meet us at the EUSBSR Annual Forum 2024!

Alliance members set spotlight on sustainable and resilient transport systems during this year’s main gathering for collaboration in the Baltic Sea region.

Sustainability, resilience, and security are the overall themes of this year’s EUSBSR Annual Forum, the yearly gathering for collaboration in the Baltic Sea region within the framework of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The Forum takes place in Visby on the island of Gotland, Sweden, on 30 and 31 October. It aims to deepen our understanding and enhance collaborative efforts in these areas.

The Scandria Alliance and its members are actively contributing to the Forum’s programme in the following transport related sessions of the Forum:

Plenary session: Sustainable and Resilient Transport Systems in the Baltic Sea Region

Taking offset in the importance of transport corridors and the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) network as lifelines that bolster economic growth and societal connectivity, this policy dialogue will explore the challenges and opportunities for developing sustainable transport solutions in the Baltic Sea Region and how to foster cooperation and innovation among the relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, it will address the effect of the current geopolitical unrest, fuelled largely by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and its impact on transport, logistics, environment, military mobility and security of supply in the region.

The Scandria Alliance’s associate member Port of Hamburg Marketing will take part in this panel, focussing on the importance of ports for the regional security of supply and their important role in decarbonising transport flows and acting as renewable energy hubs.

Seminar: Take-Off For Sustainable Aviation in the Baltic Sea Region

The ‘Fit for 55’ package has set the trajectory for decarbonising the aviation sector. For peripheral regions and islands, short-haul flights may be the only viable and efficient mode of transportation and will thus remain an important opportunity to achieve sustainable and integrated mobility across regions. The seminar aims to showcase the potential of sustainable regional aviation to meet the EU’s decarbonisation objectives and enhance connectivity and accessibility of islands, peripheral regions, and distant areas of the Baltic Sea Region.

The Scandria Alliance’s full member Kvarken Council EGTC will contribute to this seminar based on its comprehensive experience in promoting electric aviation in the Kvarken region.

Workshop: “Chicken & egg”: Ramping up Hydrogen Refuelling Stations in the Baltic Sea Region

The EU Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) requires members states to establish hydrogen refuelling stations every 200 kilometers throughout the TEN-T core network and in urban nodes by 2030. In this workshop, participants will discuss the status quo of ramping up hydrogen refuelling stations (HRS) in the Baltic Sea region, identify challenges that need to be overcome and look at the role of collaboration between stakeholders and across borders in HRS deployment. The session is organised in the framework of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region project HyTruck.
