Mecklenburg-Vorpommern strengthens Scandria®Alliance

The Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a new full member of the Scandria®Alliance.

Located between the metropolises of Hamburg, Berlin-Brandenburg and Szczecin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern connects Scandinavia to the European mainland across the Baltic Sea.
Its seaports in Rostock, Stralsund, Wismar and Sassnitz-Mukran make it a crucial hub for passenger and freight transport in the Scandria®Corridor.

Close to the Baltic Sea, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern benefits from sun and wind – both as a tourist destination and increasingly for renewable energy production. Already today, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is producing more energy from renewables than it actually needs.
This creates ideal conditions to decarbonise the industry and the mobility sector. The development of a hydrogen economy, for example, is of particular importance.

With its engagement in projects such as the HyTechHafen Rostock, or HyTruck, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern supports the transition towards a decarbonised future. Within the ministry, a hydrogen transfer unit has been established, closely collaborating with public administration and the business sector. Building an environment where companies can develop solutions for a low-emission economy, creates new development perspectives.

Being a maritime region, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has ever since been interested in international contacts and collaboration. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is active member of a number of Baltic or European Networks, such as the CPMR Baltic Sea Commission or VASAB.

It is important for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to further strengthen and deepen relations in the surrounding metropolitan regions and with neighbouring countries and states in order to further strengthen cooperation in Europe.

It is particularly important to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern that transport infrastructure is considered on a large scale and meets future challenges.

The favourable location along the TEN-T corridors could get better utilised by improving cross-border accessibility.

This includes the further development of the seaports, the modernisation of the rail infrastructure between Lübeck and Schwerin and the completion of the A14 motorway between Schwerin and Magdeburg. These key projects will provide important impetus for the development of both Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Scandria®Corridor regions.
