In November and December, representatives of the Scandria®Alliance Secretariat met with Bavarian and Italian colleagues to discuss potential for enhanced collaboration.
On 21 November 2024, the Scandria®Alliance Secretariat and our associate member CNA e.V. held a workshop in Nuremberg alongside the Bavarian Logistics Congress 2024. It was attended by representatives of the Bavarian State Ministry of Housing, Building and Transport as well as regional Chambers of Industry and Commerce from Bavaria.
During the workshop, the current situation of Bavaria along the Scandinavian-Mediterranean European Transport (ScanMed) Corridor, challenges related to trans-alpine transport as well as the potential for future collaboration have been discussed.
Presenting the Concept for Freight Transport Bavaria, the colleagues from the Bavarian State Ministry of Housing, Building and Transport demonstrated their high ambitions to strengthen combined transport by establishing combined terminals all over Bavaria and to solve challenges related to the trans-alpine transit across the Brenner, regarded as one of the most crucial challenges for Bavarian industry in the coming years.
Participants also stressed that more efforts need to to be taken to improve cross-border rail connections like those between Nuremberg and the Czech Republic.
Concluding, the participants found it very promising to join forces with regards to cross-border rail infrastructure development, urban nodes as well as European transport policy developments.

Strenghtening cross-border railway links, especially across the Brenner, is one of the top priorities. Although the Brenner Base Tunnel is seen as a key gamechanger, which will shorten travelling times between Bolzano and Munich from 4 to 2 hours, the Brenner currently constitutes major bottleneck, especially for strongly export oriented Northern Italian regions.
The participants wished to enhance cross-border collaboration related to transalpine transport as well as to zero-emission mobility. Specifically, strengthened intermodal connections could relieve the current bottleneck situation at the Brenner.
Participants unanimously supported a stronger collaboration with the Scandria®Alliance, especially with regard to monitoring European transport policies and joint project collaboration.
