About the webinar
Cross-border fixed links – bridges, tunnels, and embankments – connect regions and countries in more ways than one. In peace, they bring together businesses, strengthen employment, lower transport costs and emissions, and strengthen cultural ties. In times of crisis, they improve preparedness, resiliency as well as military and civil mobility.
In this webinar, we looked at the benefits that both a single and multiple cross-border fixed links can have regionally, nationally and for Europe as a whole. We presented Nordic Connector, an initiative to build a fixed link between Finland and Sweden over the Kvarken strait, together with other large-scale fixed connections that have been or are being built to strengthen the ScanMed Corridor.
How have these infrastructure projects come about? What are the keys to success in getting the political will to favor their construction and how are they financed? What role do they play in securing raw material transports from the North to the rest of Europe?
