Investing in resilience: Financing for a robust and sustainable European transport network
You are invited to join a high-level policy exchange during the 2025 General Assembly of the Scandria Alliance in the Representation of Land Brandenburg to the European Union in Brussels.
about the event
A seamless, safe and sustainable movement of people and goods across Europe plays a pivotal role for boosting economic growth and competitiveness. At the same time, it ensures economic, social and territorial cohesion. While the investments needed to complete the trans-European transport network alone are already enormous, Europe is simultaneously facing multiple challenges that increase the urgency to invest more in the resilience and robustness of transport and mobility and by that add pressure on already strained public budgets. Ensuring military mobility, safeguarding supply chain sovereignty, adapting to climate risks and disasters as well as modernising already existing ageing transport infrastructure are just a few examples of the diverse demands placed on public budgets in the sphere of transport and mobility.
Against this background, we aim to explore the following questions in this high-level policy exchange:
- How can we ensure financial stability for a resilient and robust transport and mobility system in the long run?
- How should future European and national funding programmes be coordinated in the best possible way?
- Which alternative and innovative financing schemes can help to cope with the enormous investment requirements in times of tight public budgets?
- How can transnational collaboration among cities and regions contribute to shaping the right framework conditions?
